Hibiscus syriacus Lil' Kim™ - Rose of Sharon
.
Common name: Rose of Sharon
Family: Malvaceae (Mallow Family)
Distribution: Asia
IUCN Red list: Not evaluated
Life form: Deciduous shrub/sub-shrub
Comments: A unique dwarf variety, this deciduous shrub only reaches a mature size of 3'-4' tall and wide. It has a mounded habit and prefers partial/full sun with a late fall/winter pruning. During the summer, dainty white flowers punctuated with a showy red eye appear. These flowers last for up to three days instead of the typical one of most Rose of Sharon. It prefers moist, organically rich soils, but tolerates poor soils and some drought. Very tolerant of summer heat and humidity as well as generally tolerant of urban conditions. Prune to shape in spring. Lovely in containers or as a hedge or specimen.
