Flowering quince is one of the first pops of color in the winter landscape with red blooms in mid to late February. Flowers are followed by hard yellowish-green fruits sometimes used to make preserves. This dense, rounded shrub is 3 to 4 feet tall and wide at maturity. It is drought tolerant and adaptable to a wide range of soil types.
