Chilopsis linearis - Desert Willow
.
Common name: Desert Willow
Family: Bignoniaceae (Trumpet Creeper family, Catalpa family)
Distribution: North America
IUCN Red list: Not evaluated
Hardiness: 3a
Life form: Deciduous shrub/sub-shrub
Comments: The desert willow plant grows as a deciduous large shrub or small tree reaching 15 feet in height. The desert willow is so-named because of its slender willow-like leaves, but this plant is actually a member of the bignonia family. The fragrant flowers range from lavender to pink and are great at attracting bees and hummingbirds. It blooms throughout the summer from around May to September and is very tolerant of hot, dry climates.
