Heptacodium miconioides - Seven-Son Flower
.
Common name: Seven-Son Flower
Family: Caprifoliaceae (Honeysuckle Family)
Synonym: Heptacodium miconiodies
Distribution: Asia
IUCN Red list: Vulnerable
Life form: Deciduous shrub/sub-shrub
Comments: Seven-son flower is so named because its flowers appear in whorls that each contain seven tiny flowers. The fragrant creamy-white flowers appear in late summer to early fall and attract hummingbirds and butterflies. Rose-colored sepals develop after the flowers fade and are as showy as the flowers. With exfoliating tan bark that reveals darker inner bark, this plant continues to impress in winter.
