Comments: This Tall Bearded Species Iris comes in colors of white, pale blue, lavender, and yellow. Iris pallida has fragarant blooms smelling like grapes that is often used in perfumes and essential oil blends. Growing anywhere from 12 - 40" in height, this Iris is a mid season bloomer, with blooms appearing in and May and June. Tall bearded iris are rhizomatous geophytes, that is to say the growth structure and storage organs needed to survive grows from rhizomes underground. Tall bearded iris are drought tolerant once established. Iris pallida is much more shade tolerant than other varieties of Iris. Iris pallida has a very old lineage dating prior to 1900. This species Iris is a re bloomer, once the initial blooms have faded, the plant will push more blooms in late spring. This Iris is hardy in zones 4 - 8.
