Gleditsia triacanthos 'Shademaster'

.
.
Common name: Honeylocust
Family: Fabaceae (Pea Family)
Distribution: North America
Hardiness: 5a
Life form: Deciduous tree
Comments: Honeylocust is native to Oklahoma and the cultivar ‘Shademaster’ has many valuable qualities for the landscape. It quickly reaches its mature 50 to 70 height, by growing two to four feet each year. Most notable about this variety is that it doesn’t not have the large thorns that the straight species does. The autumn foliage will typically turn a clear and bright yellow. The fern-like leaves provide a more dappled shade than other trees, which allows for more plantings or lawn to grow well under its canopy.
