Diervilla × splendens Firefly™ Nightglow™ - Bush Honeysuckle
.
Common name: Bush Honeysuckle
Family: Caprifoliaceae (Honeysuckle Family)
Distribution: Garden Hybrid
Life form: Semi-evergreen shrub/sub-shrub
Comments: The common name bush honeysuckle refers to the appearance of the flowers, which resemble those of plants in the genus Lonicera (honeysuckles). Not to be confused with Lonicera japonica, also known as bush honeysuckle but is an exotic invasive species.
This cultivar is a cross between to different species native speices of Diervilla. It is 3' mounded plant with reddish-purple foliage. Colored foliage is more pronounced in the sun but it grows well in part shade. It has small yellow flowers that aren't particularly showy but still attractive to pollinators. Drought tollerant and great for massing in dry shaded areas.
