Carex texensis - Texas Sedge
.
Common name: Texas Sedge
Family: Cyperaceae (Sedge family)
Distribution: North America
Life form: Perennial plant
Comments: Sedges are an ideal choice for wet areas of you garden, but some species can also be widely adapted to moist or dry conditions. The texas sedge will quickly establish as a thick ground cover when planted in the full sun. Its coarse texture and crowded rhizomes even keep out most weeds. It will typically die back to the ground in the late winter. After which, a short sheering will let the new spring growth grow back quickly.
