Dryopteris erythrosora 'Brilliance' - Autumn Fern
.
Common name: Autumn Fern
Family: Dryopteridaceae
Distribution: Asia
Hardiness: 5a
Life form: Perennial plant
Comments: This fern is a very tough and drought tolerant plant with truly stunning leaves. All the newly emerging foliage in the spring is a copper-orange color, and will fade to a shiny dark green as the leave matures. New leaves in the summer will also have the same coppery tone. This fern is also deer and rabbit resistant. Autumn fern is slow to spread and stays in neat clumps. 'Brilliance has deeper colors of red foliage in the spring that lasts longer before the leaf matures. The more red tones can appear again in the fall after a first frost.
