Prunus salicina 'Bruce' - Bruce Plum
.
Common name: Bruce Plum
Family: Rosaceae (Rose Family)
Distribution: Asia
Hardiness: 6a
Life form: Tree
Comments: 'Bruce' is well adapted to the southern United States and other hot humid climates. It bears orange, yellow-fleshed fruit in late spring or early summer. The white flowers appear in late winter or early spring, before the rounded, glossy leaves. 'Bruce' does best with full sun, fertile well-drained soil, some winter chill, and heavy annual pruning. Its flowers and subsequent fruiting are highly susceptible to late frosts. It requires a partner tree such as 'Methley' to fruit. 'Bruce' makes an excellent plant for the culinary garden or for an espalier.
